This yearsmain event, the 2010 FIFA World Cup, internationally reputed as being greatest sporting event on this planet, has been marred by outrageous refereeing decisions, accusations of substandard playing equipment and even a psychic octopus. This tournament marked the first time the World Cup was held in Africa, and the first time Spain have lifted this trophy.Later in the year, the club seasons took off as big spending English club Manchester City bought expensive players from around the globe. The year was also privy to the bidding proce s for hosts of the 2018 and the 2022 World Cups. The hosts named in the voting proce s, held in Zurich, Switzerland on the 2nd of December 2010, were Ru sia and Qatar.
